History :
Murfreesboro Garden Lovers Club was founded in the spring of 1937, tweenty-one friends of Allie Clark Westbrooks gathered at her home to organize a garden club. With the help of two ladies from the then active Murfreesboro Garden Club, Garden Lovers Club was organized.
On July 1st, 1938, In Knoxville, Tennessee, the executive board of the Tennessee Garden Clubs voted Garden Lovers Club into the State Federation
In 1947, several ladies from Garden Lovers Club met with a group of ladies to help organize Flower Growers Garden Club. Then in 1990, members of Garden Lovers and Flower Growers combined efforts to form Optimistic Gardeners Garden Club.
The Club member with the most longevity is Idalee Allen (1981)
In 1987, a tea was held at the home of Jean Hutchinson celebrating the fiftieth anniversary of the Club.
The Club celebrated its sixtieth anniversary in 1998 with a Standard Flower Show, " A Diamond Year for Garden Lovers" held at Adams Place
A Club project for 1998 was a "Reconstructed Cedar Glade" on the Stones River Greenway for which the Club received national recongnition from National Garden Clubs Inc.
The Club published a cookbook, A Bouquet of recipes, in 2000. This was a collection of recipes from members.
In 2005, the Club planted a memorial garden at a local church which received a first place award from the National Garden Clubs, Inc,
In 2002, eleven past presidents were in attendance at the 65th Anniversary Tea.
In 2005, The Club became a member of the Horticultural Society of Middle Tennessee.
In 2007, the Club Celebrated its 70th Anniversary with a tea held in Maney Hall at the Oaklands Historic House Museum. Eight past presidents were in attendance.
Thre present membership of the Club is 30, and the current president is Star Eaker.
